ABO / Rh (D) grouping is used in extensive quality control  by detecting Rh phenotype, K antigen and screening  irregular antibodies.

Internal controls have to be performed regularly  according to the local and national regulations. When  test results come out as expected, it means that test  procedures are performed correctly and, reagents and  equipments produce correct results. When unexpected  results are observed, patient test results have to be  stopped and the source of error can be tracked.
